What Did Stephen Hawking Really Think About "The Theory of Everything"?

The new film, The Theory of Everything, is a homage to famous theoretical physicist and cosmologist, Stephen Hawking.

It focuses on the private life of Hawking and his first wife, Jane. It's also based on her memoir, Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen.

Fans and everyone that saw the film are naturally curious as to what Stephen Hawking thinks about the film and what his reservations are about how the actor, Eddie Redmayne, portrayed him.

Hawking posted his expert opinion about the film in a recent Facebook post. In his post, Hawking said he was amazed Redmayne portrayed him in an excellent manner.

The actor prepared for his role by spending time with people that have ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Hawking is afflicted by this condition. Hawking said that, at times, he thought Redmayne was actually himself.

On a more poignant note, Hawking also said the film made him reflect upon his own life

Hawking has also travelled around the world, from Easter Island to Antarctica. He's traveled in a submarine and experienced zero gravity. He wants to journey into space one day.

During the making of the film, Hawking personally collaborated with director James Marsh to ensure the movie's authenticity. He also gave permission to use his own computer voice for the movie.

The release of this movie coincides with a string of science movies, one of which is Interstellar. Astrophysicist Neil de Grasse Tyson and Hawking gave Interstellar two thumbs-up.

On a Facebook post last November 13, Hawking revealed he talked to Interstellar's executive producer Kip Thorne, who was a gravitational theorist years ago, about making a science fiction movie about wormholes. Some of Hawking's ideas were also discussed in Interstellar.
