After removing the game from mobile app stores, the Flappy Bird Saga's creator announced that the game is coming back soon, this time with less addictive features and a multiplayer function.
Developer Dong Nguyen broke the news to Kelly Evans of CNBC via the Closing Bell program. He said the game will not be back anytime "soon" but mentioned that the new version will be less addictive, according to TechCrunch.

Both Kelly Evans and the CNBC Social Team relayed the news via their Twitter accounts.
Flappy Bird is a very difficult game that has very simple mechanics. The game became very popular on mobile but was pulled out of the market on February 9 after Nguyen's life became affected with the popularity and the players started to become extremely addicted to the game, CNET detailed.
Because of Flappy Bird, Nguyen had become an instant celebrity, but had also been the recipient of vile criticisms and even death threats that stemmed from the players' different reactions to the app. Despite the average daily earning of $50,000 from in-game banner ads, the developer removed the app from both the iOS and Android app stores after just a day's notice.
Nguyen explained that the extreme popularity of Flappy Bird had ruined his peaceful life. He was constantly being criticized for being ungrateful for his new fortune and for earning a lot of money from copying Nintendo's design.
For three months now, the mobile app had been dormant. Other developers have since created clones of Nguyen's game, with a new Flappy Bird clone appearing on app stores every 24 minutes.
The Vietnamese developer had previously dropped hints about bringing the game back but has only followed through that plan just recently.
Nguyen said the potential return time of Flappy Bird will be in August. The updated version of the mobile game will allow players to compete with one another in real time.
