GEM Tang Criticized for Being a Diva; Alan Tam: GEM Should Work on Social Skills

Hong Kong-based Canto-pop singer G.E.M. Tang has recently been receiving criticism from the media because she has allegedly been behaving like a diva while local tabloids are insisting that her fame has been making her head bloat.

Controversy surrounds Tang since it has been reported that her fame in Mainland China has gotten to her head and that she has been dishing out the diva behavior in front of the media which deemed her disrespectful.

According to media reports, during a press conference which was held recently, one of the participating media companies have requested to interview the singer in a separate session. However, Cheung Tan, Tang's manager, allegedly stated that since Tang is now an international star, she would only conduct one interview at the same time with all of the participating media outlets.

Cheung allegedly even threatened that if the media personnel will not cooperate, the press conference will be cancelled, subsequently offending the reporters, who decided to leave on the spot upon hearing the manager's statement.

When Cheung found out that the reporters will be leaving, he is said to have suddenly changed his mind and as opposed to his purported initial statement, he told the reporters that Tang will be willing to hold a separate interviews.

Due to her manager's arrogant attitude towards the press, many have assumed that Tang has had something to do with it and has consequently been criticized for behaving like a diva.

After the issue surfaced, Tang faced the media once more, saying that she had no idea about administrative matters, insisting that she is only a performing artist. She also stated that she hopes that there would be more understanding between her management and the media.

Hong Kong singer Alan Tam, on the other hand, when asked to say something about the singer's alleged diva behavior, is said to have given advice to the Tang, saying that she still has a long way to go when it comes to her social skills.

"Wasn't it just a misunderstanding? She is a very, very good singer, "says Tam, "but with regard to her social skills, she still has a long way to go."

Furthermore, though he cited that Tang still has problems with her interpersonal skills, he encouraged the media to give her room to grow in that aspect, adding that her managing company should be more flexible when it comes to running things with regard to the singer's career.
