UNC Causes Extensive Damage To Duke Locker Rooms

Players from the North Carolina Tar Heels have caused extensive damage to the visiting locker room of Duke at Wallace Wade Stadium. The team spray painted the locker room after their 45-20 win over the Blue Devils last week.

The reaction came as a result of the historic heated rivalry between the two teams.

The most recent game was the first win of the Tar Heels since 2011. After their win, players gathered on the field to spray paint the Victory Bell trophy Carolina blue, as is the custom.

However, the team took the spray painting to the locker room and left it damaged. The team has spray painted the letters "UNC" on a wall next to a door entering the facility and elsewhere in the locker room.

Tar Heels coach Larry Fedora personally called to apologize to the Blue Devils' coach David Cutcliffe the day after the game. North Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham similarly apologized to his Duke counterpart Kevin White.

The Herald-Sun reported that North Carolina will be paying for the thousands of dollars in damage to the walls and carpets in the locker room. The damage reached up to US $10,000 in costs.

"We would like to apologize to the Duke Football program and Duke University for some inappropriate actions after last Thursday night's game in Durham," Fedora and Cunningham said in a joint statement they issued.

"Our team took the celebration too far when they were painting the bell, resulting in damage to some of the facilities at Duke. We take full responsibility for our actions and will be paying for all costs associated with the cleanup."

They end by saying that they view the rivalry as one that is built on mutual respect, and they expect their players to behave much better in a way that is more fitting of the rivalry.

The win of the Tar Heels ensures that Georgia Tech will represent the Coastal Division in the ACC Championship game.
