Lyft Feature Allows Drivers To Set The Destination

(Photo : Reuters) Lyft is allowing taxi drivers to make a bit of money to and from work, by allowing taxi drivers to set a specific destination and only pick up customers who are going to the same place.
Ridesharing service Uber is under a lot of heat right now, but its main rival Lyft is adding new features to make taxi drivers more money on their trips to and from work.
The new feature, called Driver Destination, allows the driver to implement a destination and only pick up customers who are going to the same place, or somewhere nearby, reports The Verge. Customers can also be picked up if they want to be dropped off somewhere en-route.

When taxi drivers are first starting their shift and need to go to the main taxi HQ, or if they are travelling back home, this could be a way for the cab to pick up customers, rather than getting side-tracked to the other end of the city.
It is unclear if drivers will be paid less if they only choose a single destination, or if the driver can set one location for the whole of the shift.
Lyft and Uber have been criticized for not allowing drivers much leeway when it comes to payment. Drivers are also under pressure, due to reviews of the driver being made public.
However, in a recent poll, most taxi drivers working for one of the taxi app companies said their experience and income is good, if a little more stressful. Uber - most notably - has been known for charging excessive amounts on holidays to make drivers more money.
Lyft is also doing a lot to make the taxi experience different and better for the driver and the customer. The company recently announced Lyft Line in San Francisco and Los Angeles (where Driver Destination will be available), allowing customers to share a cab with someone else, for a cheaper ride.
Carpooling is an interesting business, but neither Lyft, Uber or Sidecar has announced numbers of customers accepting the shared-taxi service. Destination issues and time might put some customers off sharing a cab, alongside privacy.
Zimride - the parent company in charge of Lyft - offers the largest ride-sharing program in the U.S. This should mean Lyft is off to a head start when it comes to destinations and making sure two customers are not worse off from sharing the cab.
