An Israeli company is about to take charging smartphones to a faster level by developing a "nanodot battery" that can reach full charge in about 30 seconds.
The nanodot battery was developed by the company, StoreDot. This firm prides itself with developing technology based on their research into biological, self-assembling nanodots.

The nanodots are described as bio-organic nanocrystals. They're relatively small in size, generally some two nanometers in diameter and consist of bioorganic peptide molecules.
The "green" material StoreDot used to develop the nanodot battery can charge the battery in 30 seconds, and can even provide extended battery life.
CEO Dr. Doron Myersdorf said after their intensive research, they realized they had new materials, which brought new chemistry and new physics that could ultimately change the future of humanity.
He described the battery as being similar to a sponge since the battery soaks up power and retains it, too. The nanodot battery has the capability to replace the rampant lithium ion batteries and is a non-toxic alternative to this type of battery.
The biocompatibility of the StoreDot's technology allows for applications in nanomedical technology since the peptide-based nanodots can function as biomarkers for examining organ function. The tech can also be used in the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease; in drug delivery and food security labeling.
Myersdorf also hopes one day, he can develop an electric car with the ability to charge faster than the standard overnight charging of current electric cars.
The company has finished the research and testing phase of the nanodot battery and will soon reach its production phase.
The prototype is too bulky for a smartphone, but SoreDot is still working on slimming it down.
Reuters says one fast-charging phone could cost from US$100 to US$150.
