Gong Li to Portray White Bone Demon in 'The Monkey King 2'

Mainland Chinese actress Gong Li reportedly confirmed her participation in the new film 'The Monkey King 2', playing the role of the White Bone Demon known as Baigujing.

It has been confirmed by actress Gong Li that she will be joining the production of the upcoming film, 'The Monkey King 2' which will serve as the sequel to the hit Lunar New Year film 'The Monkey King'.

According to Chinese media outlet, Mingpao News, the 48-year old actress will be playing the role of Baigujing, otherwise known as the the White Bone Demon.

Gong, during an interview, revealed that 'The Monkey King 2' will be her very first 3D action film. Due to this, the actress says that she is looking forward to the filming process.

According to Gong, participating in such a film is new to her. "I am full of curiosity," says the actress. "I believe the film is magical." In addition, she expressed her hopes to give justice to the role that she will be playing.

As for her role, the White Bone Demon is said to be a shape-shifting female demon who desired to eat the flesh of Xuanzang, the Buddhist monk in the film.

Other actresses who have played the part of the White Bone Demon include Kristy Yang in 'The Monkey King' which was released back in 1992, Taiwanese actress Ady An in the 2011 TV series entitled 'Journey to the West' and it was Karen Mok who portrayed the she-demon in 'A Chinese Odyssey'.

On the other hand, the production crew has also revealed the main character, announcing that Hong Kong singer-actor Aaron Kwok will be taking on the part of the monkey king, replacing Donnie Yen.

In related news, Gong has recently been involved in controversy after she allegedly criticized the Golden Horse Awards through her agent after not winning the Best Actress accolade.

The actress has not yet made any comments regarding the issue.
