Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev and Elena Rybolovleva, who had married in 1987, are separating at a cost of US$4.5 billion in divorce settlement.
Fertilizer tycoon Rybolovlev, who Forbes said is currently worth US$8.8 billion, was ordered by a Swiss court to pay his ex-wife $4.5 billion, or about half his estimated net worth.

This divorce settlement could be the biggest in history, according to ABC News.
The assets of the 47-year-old self-made billionaire include a Palm Beach mansion worth US$95 million, an apartment in New York worth US$88 million, and islands in Hawaii and Greece.
Based on a document showing the Swiss court's ruling, antique valuables and other items are also to be handed over to Rybolovleva as part of the settlement.
The copy of the ruling was procured from the office of Rybolovleva's lawyer.
Among the listed items to be granted to the Russian mogul's ex-wife are marble vases, a wooden desk with pearl and silver plating, an intricate Empire pedestal, and several other properties.
Marc Bonnant, Rybolovleva's lawyer, expressed his delight with the ruling because it was exactly what his client had asked for.
Although the Swiss court granted Bonnant's client US$4.5 billion (CHF4 billion), the lawyer believed she could have gotten more.
On top of that, Elena Rybolovleva was given custody of their young daughter and less than US$129,000 (CHF115,000) every month to support child care.
The Associated Press cited Attorney Bonnant saying the cash order would most likely be cut down after appeals are filed.
The former couple's most expensive assets include the French soccer club AS Monaco and real estate property in Gstaad, Switzerland, with two ski chalets. The Associated Press said the Swiss chalets were worth US$146 million (CHF130.5 million).
Dmitry Rybolovlev's luxurious penthouse in Monaco is reportedly worth over US$300 million. This is where he currently resides in.
