Coming in at the No. 2 spot is the Penguins of Madagascar distributed by 20th Century Fox, which earned $10.5 million.

At No. 3 is Walt Disney's Big Hero 6 which grossed US$7.7 million.

Placing No. 4 is Interstellar earning US$6.7 million, while Horrible Bosses 2 lands the fifth spot at US$6 million.

Mockingjay is already a global box-office phenomenon, raking US$400 million in global receipts since it opened last week.

The saga of Katniss continues and she's now leading a revolt against the totalitarian rule of the city of Panem. The success of the film is definitely attributed to Jennifer Lawrence's stellar and powerful presence, not to mention the impact of the present times' many insecurities that range from the threats of ISIS to the spread of fearsome ebola.

The film also sees Katniss as the Mockingjay, the symbol of a revolution, the result of which won't be seen by audience until Part II hits the screen next year.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 2 is the screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins's novel. It received 66% "fresh" rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

Rounding up the top 10 at the weekend box-office are:

6. Dumb and Dumber To - US$3.4 million.

7. The Theory Of Everything - US$1.8M.

8. Gone Girl - US$985,000.

9. Beyond the Lights - US$790,000.
