Lars Von Trier Worries He Can't Make Films Now He's Sober

Danish director Lars von Trier aired his concern that he doesn't think he could make more films now that he is sober.

In an interview with Danish newspaper Politiken, von Trier revealed that he owed his creativity to drugs and booze.

"No creative expression of artistic value has ever been carried out by former alcoholics and drug addicts," he said.

The interview was von Trier's first since he was banned by the organizers of Cannes Film Festival in 2011 after he claimied that he was a Nazi during a press conference for his film Melancholia.

The interview hit the front page in Politiken and ran to seven pages inside.

Von Trier gained notoriety for directing movies with sexually graphic content, including Antichrist and Nymphomaniac.

Von Trier revealed that he is already sober for 90 days as of Sunday and has been religiously attending sessions with the Alcoholics Anonymous every day.

The filmmaker, who won in Cannes film festival for his critically-acclaimed works like Europa, Braking Waves, and Dancer in the Dark, admitted in the newspaper interview that he was drinking one bottle of vodka every day. To stir his creativity even further, be drank alcohol while taking drugs of different sorts.

However, the director cautioned that people, particularly those who want to squeeze their creative juices, shouldn't follow his path.

"I can't recommend anyone to do the same. It is very dangerous and stupid in every way," he said.

Von Trier, a father of four, is married to a teacher.

He further revealed that he has reached a point in his life where had to choose between the   human Lars Trier or the director Lars von Trier.

He added "von" before his family name while attending Danish Film School.
