Bill Cosby's current state prompted him to tender his resignation as the member of Temple University's Board of Trustees. Charges of sexual assaults filed against him by a number of women eventually cost him his post which he holds for more than three decades.

There were news that the university called for his resignation but is yet to be confirmed.

Time revealed the University's statement on Cosby's resignation, Monday. He emphasized his genuine concern for the students and the learning institution and was quoted as saying, "I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the University and its students."

The University issued a statement about Cosby's resignation in PEOPLE saying that, "The Board of Trustees accepts Dr. Cosby's resignation from the board and thanks him for his service to the university."

He said that it has been an honor to be associated with Temple University. The University's Board expressed their appreciation to Cosby's valuable services to their institution. Despite accusations against Cosby which prompted other schools to sever ties with him, Temple University stood by the comedian under worst circumstances, Time revealed. Anyway a verdict is yet to be rendered.

Cosby's career gradually gets affected by the issues thrown at him. At the age of 77, the devastating effect of sexual allegations has reached a point that has put his integrity at stake. Hence, any assistance coming from him is not easily considered, unlike before that his philanthropic acts are most welcomed.

Cosby and his wife, Camille, donated ample amounts of money for scholarship grants and other needs of the university and has been a visible supporter of the institution for decades.

In fact, he has been the institution's speaker several times, having been previously enrolled in the said school, but didn't finished a degree.

The Temple University even hosted Cosby's induction to Writers Guild of America.
