McDonalds' employees strike in Chicago
Shouting they deserve a livable wage, 2,000 protesters staged a noisy demonstration demanding a higher hourly wage at McDonald's headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois.
They also demanded the right to form a union without retaliation during the demonstration that was believed to be the largest in McDonald's history. Among the protesters were over 300 workers in McDonald's restaurant uniforms.

Protesters said the Oak Brook Police Department arrested over 110 of their number for trespassing, including labor leaders, community leaders and clergy.
The protest is the latest in an unrelenting string of street actions against McDonalds and other major American fast food chains such as Burger King and Taco Bell protesting low wages.
One McDonalds protester said she took to the streets in Oak Brook to fight for a $15 per hour wage and the right to form a union so her children won't share her fate. She said McDonald's workers deserve a livable wage.
The U.S. federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Fast-food workers make about $9.08 an hour, or $18,880 a year, on average, if they work full time, said the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Restaurant and retail workers are fighting for a minimum wage of $15 per hour. The protest at McDonalds is the latest in a series that seeks to increase national awareness about the growing income inequality among managers and employees.
A think tank recently revealed that fast-food companies have the largest gap between the pay of CEOs and workers in any industry in the U.S. The study said the CEO-to-worker compensation ratio for the fast-food industry was over 1,000-to-one in 2013.
Championing the right of workers to higher pay is President Barack Obama who is pushing Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour from the current $7.25. McDonalds claims raising the minimum wage to $15 is unrealistic.
McDonald's has more than 35,400 restaurants worldwide. Some 90 percent of its locations in the U.S. are owned by franchisees that determine pay, says McDonalds.
