Although he is considered the best outfield player and scoring leader in the US, Landon Donovan has been omitted from the roster of the next World Cup.
The 32-year-old three-time World Cup player was among the seven players that head coach Jurgen Klinsmann had cut from the roster today. The Brazil tournament, which will commence next month, requires only 23 players in the team.

In a Facebook post, Donovan expressed his continued support for his pals who will represent the US National Team in the Brazil event, and he said he was happy to have been part of three straight World Cups. However, the omitted player also voiced out his disappointment with Klinsmann's announcement today.
In a video posted by US Soccer, Klinsmann explained that he chose to cut Donovan out of the roster because he saw some other players who were better than him. The head coach also remarked that Donovan took the news quite well.
Meanwhile, Donovan's teammates took to Twitter their feelings about the decision. Jeff Carlisle said he was stunned by the news.
For the past ten years, Donovan has been the front of the US soccer team, clocking in 57 goals in his participation in 156 events. He has also grabbed five titles in the Major League Soccer.
Donovan has appeared in 12 World Cup games, a record higher than any other players in the US. In the 2010 World Cup, he scored an iconic goal which helped the team defeat Algeria and secured their place in the knockout round.
In the CONCACAF Gold Cup held last summer, Donovan received the MVP (Most Valuable Player) title after regaining his spot in the US national team. He had gone on a four-month sabbatical when the 2012 season ended.
In an interview with ESPN in April, Donovan said he can no longer stretch himself in practice if he wants to store enough energy for weekend games. Last month, he was not present during a friendly match against Mexico and Klinsmann said a knee injury had affected his performance in practice.
