Another 36 non-Muslim excavation workers from northeast Kenya were killed by the Somalian militant group al-Shabab Tuesday, Dec. 2. This led Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta to dismiss his highest security officers from duty following the surge of unyielding violence that has plagued Kenya for the past year.

The al-Shabab group has put more than 200 people to death since 2013 as a protest against the Kenyan government for not pulling its military troops from its neighbor country, Somalia. The Kenyan military joined the African troops some time ago in an aim to battle the Somalian militants and put an end to the wide-spread violence they have been causing.
This latest incident has made Kenyans wary of their leaders' capabilities. They felt like Kenyatta have failed them in being able to do more to ascertain his people's safety and security. The people have longed to sleep in peace and be spared from the seemingly ceaseless al-Shabab assaults and attacks.
The militant group, however, was proud to take responsibility of the bloodshed that startled a quiet Kenyan nation. They reiterated that unless the Kenyatta government decides to pull out its troops from Somalia, violence and killings will never stop.
Hassan Duba, a witness of the killing recalls, "The militia (al-Shabab) separated the Muslims, then ordered the non-Muslims to lie down and shot them in the head at close range."
The incident angered some Kenyan citizens, hence the pressure and heat Kenyatta is sensing after the incident. Over a week ago, at the same area where the 26 non-Muslims were murdered Tuesday, another separate incident of shooting also happened when the al-Shabab group hi-jacked a bus and shot all 28 passengers.
The continuing death toll worries most Kenyans as they fear for their own protection and well being.
