However, the Grammy-winning diva got panned by netizens after it became obvious that she was having a hard time reaching the high notes.

The telecast started with Carey's opening performance, singing her unforgettable holiday song, "All I Want for Christmas is You."

The singing legend was wearing a cleavage-revealing red gown, with kids dancing as her backups.

Right from the start, it was obvious that she was already having difficulty reaching the high notes. She even had to struggle with her breathing.

Then, there's the coat mishap, when she had difficulties taking it off while singing. It eventually hang loose from her arm until it fell on the ground.

The singing kicked it away anyway after her song number.

"Merry Christmas! I'm getting a new coat!" she laughed.

But Carey's agony did not stop there as she was flooded with a barrage of social media critique, slamming her performance. While some fans were quite disturbed, others were simply mocking her as her vocals turned out mediocre.

Carey agreed to perform live after NBC got mad when she arrived three hours late for her pre-taped performance scheduled Tuesday. Fans had waited for the Hero singer before the producers decided to pack up.

TMZ reported that Carey was so engrossed talking to her lawyers about her divorce with husband Nick Cannon that she wrecked her scheduled taped performance.

She tweeted: "You've kept me here, in your hearts, and I keep you in mine always. We are #lambily! #ThereForMe. I will be opening tonight's live show in Rockefeller center with "All I Want For Christmas Is You"!!!! Tune in at 8pm on NBC!"
