A 25-year-old art student announced at his graduation exhibition that he had eaten meat from his own hip, claiming that it tasted like "wild sheep".
Alexander Selvik Wengshoel, a student at Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art, was born with a deformed hip which caused him to spend most of his life on crutches or in a wheelchair.

Recently, he was approved for a procedure which would replace his original bone with a metal hip.
Wengshoel convinced the surgeons to allow him to film the procedure and to keep the hip bone - both of which have been included in his exhibit.
Local news sources report that the artist originally only planned on boiling the hip bone in order to remove the meat and use it as part of his exhibition. However, Wengshoel ended up picking up a piece of meat and tasting it.
The artist told reporters that:
"I took off a little piece and I thought, 'why not do it. It's not every day I will have a piece of human flesh which is mine and which it is possible to eat', so I had a little taste, and then I thought, 'that's really nice'."
Wengshoel then proceeded to whip up a side of potato gratin, pour himself a glass of wine, and sit down to finish off the rest of the meat.
The art student further explained that eating his own flesh was a sort of purge for him after years of dealing with the excruciating pain from his disability.
"The hip bone had been such a problem for me for over 20 years, and it was just a way of making it better again," said Wengshoel. "It had been so hard to have it in my body, and when I took it out, it turned into something else, something romantic."
