A total of five students who are in middle school died after a wall collapsed on them on Monday in Eastern China. Their authorities and the media are now questioning construction and building engineering of schools in the country.
According to the Anhui Administration of Work Safety from their main website, the wall located at Tongren Middle School collapsed on the students while they were out for a basketball event in Huaibei, China. It caused the demise of five female students and another one was injured. Everything is currently still under investigation.

China Central Television said that the unfortunate accident happened when the students were just taking a break by the foot of the wall, when it suddenly fell on them. Rescuers used only their hands to dig and go through the rubble, without using any machine to help several other students who were trapped in it.
Other reports indicated that the wall collapsed because of its shabbiness, which now makes authorities think that the school has been negligent about their facilities. It has been 17 years since the said wall was built and it looked like it was not maintained well. This is one of the reasons that local authorities have observed. But according to the city's bureau of education, the school has met their basic requirements when it comes to their yearly safety check on January 16.
This is not the first time the issue of constructions being shoddy in schools was brought up in this country. Back in 2008 during an earthquake in the Southwestern Province of Sichuan, lots of children in their schools were killed because of their walls that were said to be unstable. That earthquake killed about 90,000 people.
No comments were received from the school authorities just yet and parents are currently grieving for the loss of their children. The community hopes to find who is really responsible for such tragic incident.
