Hong Kong actor, Wayne Lai has been around the business since 1986 and played different roles. His latest role was a wealthy business empire heir in TVB series, "Overachievers," but unlike the character he played Lai just wants to have a simple life, rather than live extravagantly.

Lai experienced a luxury lifestyle because of his role on the TVB series, "Overachievers." He had a taste of Hong Kong elite lifestyle; he had the chance to ride private jets, yachts and lived in a private island. However, Lai was not impressed with the luxurious life and still preferred to have a simple and ordinary life. He also said that luxurious life was impressive at first glance, but actually it is stressful and dangerous as well.

According to Lai, for him being happy means having true freedom, a physical freedom and freedom from mental stress. He even cited the case of Li Ka Shing, the Hong Kong tycoon who is so wealthy that he does not have any freedom because he needs to be escorted by his bodyguard everywhere he goes. He also mentioned Hong Kong superstars Tony Leung and Andy Lau, who does not have enough freedom because they attract media whenever they are in public.

Lai can go about his daily routine without any problems; he can go shopping or have a walk and enjoy street foods. He is also financially well off, but he still managed to have his freedom. According to him, he's just fine with the status quo.

Lai is not the only one who has the same perspective in life; his wife also shares the same views. She told Wayne before she married him that he does not need to afford a property to marry her. Wayne and his family do not live in a luxurious property instead they are contented living in a rented property near Sheung Shui.

According to him, he is very happy with his current financial status and he felt lucky that he still had a chance to have new roles especially now that there are many new, good-looking actors.
