Paul Pierce, the 10-time NBA All Star, and current forward for the Washington Wizards, has passed Reggie Miller to claim the 16th spot on the NBA's all-time scoring list. He reached the milestone during a double-overtime win against his former team the Boston Celtics on Monday night.

Pierce reached the milestone with a free throw in the second quarter, as fans around the arena showed their respect with a standing ovation after the accomplishment was announced inside the D.C.'s Verizon Center. Pierce was seen waving while excitedly urging the crowd to make more noise.
"It's great. I heard the crowd ovation," Pierce said after the game. "I think it's all great, but I really don't think it's going to sink in until I'm done playing. I still have a lot of basketball left to play."
Pierce put an exclamation point on the night, finishing the game with a team high 28 points, increasing his scoring total to an even 25,300. The 37-year-old is only 313 points away from passing former Denver Nugget forward Alex English as the 15th highest scorer in NBA history, and should be able to achieve the milestone sometime later in the season.
In typical star fashion, the 17-year veteran hit clutch shots, including a game tying three pointer with 38 seconds left in overtime that sent the game into double-overtime, before eventually winning the game 133-132.
Even more impressive was Pierce's ability to play the final five minutes of regulation in addition to the 10 minutes of both overtimes without receiving his sixth foul and being ejected from the game. Pierce remained aggressive and made another key play when he drew an offensive foul on Boston's Jeff Green with 37 seconds left in second overtime.
When addressed by the media, Pierce went on to reiterate that the milestone hasn't yet sunk in and likely won't until he's retired and able to look back at his accomplishments:
"I've accomplished a lot of things in this game, but I don't think it's really going to truly sink in until I sit down and walk away from the game and say, 'Dang, look at the things you were able to accomplish.' Right now, I'm just riding this wave. I'm still on my surfboard."
