Wife Of South African Hostage Killed In Yemen Rescue Operation Says She Forgives Her Husband's Killers

The wife of the South African hostage, identified as Pierre Korkie, says that she forgives those who were responsible for the death of her husband during an attempted rescue operation in Yemen last Saturday in an effort to rescue the American hostage Luke Somers.
Yolande Korkie released a statement and said that they chose to let it all go since the accusations will not bring back her husband. Yolanda was referring to the American officials pointing out that her husband was killed by a militant.

"What will it help to accuse? What will it help to find out what happened?" said Yolande. "Will it bring Pierre back? Never,"
According to the officials of the United States, they have carried out the rescue mission by special forces because allegedly, the al-Qaeda threatened to kill Somers. They added that they were not aware that Somers and Pierre were being held in the same area.
According to a South African aid group called Gift of the Givers, they were already negotiating for Pierre's release and that his freedom was already pending as there was a deal with the militant group al-Qaeda.
Upon knowing this, Yolande was emotional when she spoke at a news conference held at the logistics center of the Gift of the Givers located in Johannesburg. She had visualized the situation differently and had expected to be reunited with Pierre.
However, despite their expectations before, she said that they have intense relief after his body was returned to South Africa on Monday. A funeral service for Pierre is scheduled later this week.
Yolande also said her children did not have the chance to say goodbye to their father while she was able to spend months with Pierre while they were held in captivity. She added that the last time she saw Pierre, he was sick and his last words were 'I love you and tell the children I love them.'
Pierre, a teacher, was abducted with Yolande at the Yemeni city of Taiz back in May 2013. Yolande was released just this January after the Gift of the Fivers negotiated with the al-Qaeda.
