Chinese cope with the extreme heat
Beijing and Shanghai are baking under a pitiless heatwave expected to send temperatures soaring up to 40 degrees Centigrade.
Weathermen predict daily high temperatures from Wednesday to Sunday between a scorching 35°C and 40°C (95°F and 105°F). The hottest day will likely be Thursday (May 29, 2014).

Weathermen said a building ridge of high pressure is causing the dry weather across northern China this week and is sending temperatures soaring well above normal.
High temperatures will average 5°C to 10°C (10°F to 20°F) above normal across much of northern and eastern China, including Shanghai and Beijing.
Temperatures soared to around 35°C (95°F) in Beijing this Monday. Temperatures peaked at 90°F on Tuesday.
Weathermen expect the highest temperatures during the heat wave to occur from Wednesday through Sunday.
In the entire year of 2013, Beijing only reached 38°C (100°F) twice. The temperature could well exceed that number this week. The bad news for people living in China is that the hottest months of the year are yet to come.
This heatwave is expected to continue into early next week. A cold front from the northwest, however, could finally bring temperatures back down to normal. This cooling should come by the middle of next week.
