Missing Cincinnati Student Brogan Dulle Found Dead Next Door

The search for missing student Brogan Dulle has ended on Monday night when his body was found hanging in a basement inside a building next to his own apartment.

The 21-year-old student had gone missing early May 18 and was found dead on Monday. Assistant Police Chief Dave Bailey said there were still many questions surrounding Dulle's death, Cincinnati reported.

Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco, the Hamilton County Coroner, said Dulle died from asphyxiation by hanging. She also said his body had most likely been in the basement all the time he was missing.

Police believe the Cincinnati student climbed the 9-feet-high fire escape of the building along McMillan Avenue using his athletic abilities. They also found a crowbar inside the establishment which the police believe the 6-foot-1 swim coach used to break a window in the third floor. There was no suicide note but they found a bottle of wine beside Dulle's body.

Bailey added that they did not expect the search would end this way because Dulle's behavior did not indicate a suicidal tendency.

Dulle had gone out with friends at Mac's Pizza Hub and The St. Claire but had gone back to search for his forgotten phone. He was last seen around 2:00 am on May 18.

The search for Dulle had drawn national attention and the support of friends, family, and many volunteers. His family had called of the search on Monday, but several hours later, a landlady went inside the building and found his body, according to Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell.

Bailey said the landlady saw a male figure inside the building and called the cops to report a break-in. When the police responded at around 9:00 pm, they found Dulle's body in a dark and damp basement corner.

Blackwell said they did everything in their power to find Dulle, but the building where his body was found showed nothing suspicious that warranted a forced entry. Police said the building is owned by The Global Medical Services LLC.

Meanwhile, the phone that Dulle reportedly lost has not yet been recovered, Bailey added.

In a statement made through acting spokeswoman Laura Lewis, Dulle's family expressed their grief in the death of their loved one. They also thanked the Cincinnati community for their love and support and asked for respect and privacy during their grieving period.

A memorial vigil for Dulle will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 pm at the Cincinnati Zoo main entrance. On Wednesday, another vigil will be held at 9:00 pm at the TUC steps on McMicken Commons.
