After the suspect stabbed Rosenblat, the police asked him to drop his weapon but he refused to do it. Instead, he charged a knife towards an officer. The police shot him before he was even successful in his attempt. He was also taken to the hospital, but he died upon arrival.
It was at exactly 1:37 am when the incident happened and the suspect was found out to have a criminal record who lives in New York. He came inside the synagogue angry and immediately approached the victim who was studying at that time. According to some witnesses, he stabbed him and he keeps saying, "Kill the Jews!" Other people came to stop him so he won't stab the other students who were present in the premise as well.
The 49-year-old perpetrator was given a warning shot to drop his knife, but after refusing and attempting to stab the officer, he was shot again which resulted in his death.
One of the leaders of Chabad-Lubavitch Headquarters, Rabbi Motti Seligson said that they are continuing to pray for Rosenblat's recovery and that they are also urging the public to do the same. They are hurt on how things happened, but they are grateful to the officers who came in fast when they called out for an emergency. They are also currently cooperating with the local authorities regarding the whole investigation process.
He added that they are very pleased and they want to compliment the efforts made by the police who were there to take some action on a pressing matter.
