Honda Accord: Most Stolen Vehicle Model

The Honda Accord is the most stolen vehicle for the fifth time in a row, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and the tracking and recovery company, LoJack, ABC news reports.
Based on last year's records by LoJack, the Honda Accord was ranked as the top most stolen and recovered vehicle model among a list of 10.

This makes it the fifth time in a row that the Accord had topped its list. It should be noted, however, that the data only consisted of vehicles owned by LoJack clients.
Last August, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, an organization supported by car insurance companies, had done a similar report based on vehicles which were stolen in 2012. The report had shown that the Honda Accord was the most stolen vehicle for five straight years.
According to the Bureau's information, the 1996 Accord was recorded as the most stolen vehicle make and model.
Patrick Clancy of LoJack Corporation says that Accords have been one of the top selling models in the U.S., citing its reliability as one of the factors.
The implication of the Accord as a top selling vehicle means that more drivers are using these cars, which subsequently indicate that more of the model is being serviced at automobile shops for maintenance and repairs.
Clancy speculates that a reason why the Accord is top stolen vehicle model is the car parts.
The car thieves can sell car parts for up to three times the value of the vehicle since car parts can be used interchangeably across different makes and models, Clancy said.
When asked to respond to these results, Honda spokesperson, Chris Naughton, simply said that the Honda Accord has been one of its more popular vehicle models for over 3 decades and was named this year's "best-selling new car".
He adds that Honda cars are best known for their durability, reliability and quality and is the reason why Honda cars, compared with other brands, are still being driven long after the lapse of the 5-year depreciation rule.
