Scientists Report New Record for Quantum Teleportation Distance

Half a decade ago, quantum teleportation researchers and scientists were really excited with successful quantum information teleportation experiments even if the distance attained was only a few meters.
A recent experiment by quantum teleportation researchers teleported light particles across a distance of 25 kilometers or 15.5 miles. This distance is the farthest achieved by quantum teleportation.

Quantum teleportation could improve communication security, Internet access, and highly advanced quantum computers.
Don't get the wrong idea, though. Scientists can only transport information through quantum teleportation and not matter such as people, objects, or anything that has mass.
So what did the experiment entail? According to NBC News, it involved an extremely fast laser used by the University of Geneva, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Some of the other devices they used included optical fiber and a crystal.
It's also worthy to note this is the first time such a distance has been recorded with the use of optical fiber.
