Stephen Colbert reportedly won't start his new CBS late night show until late August or early September, which will give him an eight-month hiatus after he wraps up "The Colbert Report" this month.

David Letterman will host "The Late Show" until May 20, 2015 and he will be replaced by Colbert. Letterman made his resignation last April when he called Les Moonves the CBS Corp. President-CEO and said that he will leave "The Late Show" after his current contract expires.

As for Colbert, he still needs to do his Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report"  up to Dec. 18. But Colbert will start hosting "The Late Show" on August or early September next year which gives him a long break.

However, the long break can benefit Colbert because he will have more time to create a new persona for his new show. Ever since he started his gig on "The Colbert Report", people see him as the crazy TV professional and he is definitely not taking his crazy character to his new CBS show.

The long break is also useful for the show's production staff because they will have more time to hire new writers and new production staff. Meanwhile, Ed Sullivan Theater will serve as "The Late Show" new home, which is also required of renovation and technical upgrades. CBS network is also planning to do some test show with Colbert in front of  a live audience before the launching of the show.

When asked about the date of the premiere, a CBS spokesman refused to answer the questions, but the premiere is expected to be announced in January .

Colbert, 50 years old, is an American writer, television host, actor, producer and political satirist. Aside from hosting "The Colbert Report", Colbert was also famous for his characters in "Love Guru", "The Office", "Saturday Night Live" and by lending his voice in the animated motion picture, "Monster versus Aliens" and "Mr. Peabody & Sherman".
