Instagram, the popular social media site where people can upload and share photos and short video clips, has now reached more than 300 million active subscribers on a monthly basis. The number doubled from the 150 million users registered in March of this year, which means it is bigger now than Twitter.

The sharp increase in subscribers means more opportunities to draw attention from advertisers, who could take advantage of the photo-sharing feature. The company just released its video advertising features along with the selling of sponsored image posts.
The principal analyst from eMarketer Debra Aho Williamson said that with 300 million monthly consistent subscribers, the photo-app sharing company is attracting more marketers as well as brand advertisers. The more this company grows, the higher the chances that it will get more deals in the advertising industry.
Facebook now owns the company and according to them, they are doing their best to make sure that all accounts are legit. As much as possible, they delete all spam users and from now on, celebrities and other brand accounts will undergo verification.
According to Instagram's CEO Kevin Systrom from the company's blog post, as they grow bigger, they are focused on helping their users explore more photos and videos of people who are dear to them like their family or even their favorite artists. He also pointed out that their users share more than 70 million photos and videos in just one day.
As of the moment, Systrom has no interest on becoming like YouTube and Netflix when it comes to film production. He said that they are more of a mediator that if they see and think that a particular content is interesting, they will just feature it on their blog or the company's official account.
