Syria Suicide Bomber May Be an American Citizen

A bombing of a Syrian-controlled facility on May 25 was conducted by an American, the New York Times reports.
The attack was first made known through extremist group's social media account, Twitter. The group known as Nusra Front, posted on Tuesday of the great sacrifice made by Abu Hurayra al-Amriki (Abu Hurayra the American), and included a photo of the alleged suicide bomber.

In the photo, a bearded man is shown to be smiling into the camera and holding a cat.
The group also uploaded a video of the truck bombing. In the first few seconds of the video, a few men were shown loading missiles into a truck before it drove off. The next shot pans to a view of a described government-controlled building being obliterated by a strong explosion.
After the explosion, rebels stormed the complex and raided the facility, KAWC reported.
Four bombings were reported to have occurred in Idlib province on May 25, including the truck bombing incident.
In a post by Syrian journalist agency, Syria Direct, a photo of 4 suicide bombers connected to the May 25 bombing was uploaded by the Islamic activist group. According to Reuters, one of the four men looked like the man in the photo with a cat.
A man who identified himself as Ahmed told reporters through Skype that although he did not know Abu Hurayra, he said that the suicide bomber was an American.
"I know he was an American, had an American passport and that he was with the Nusra Front," he said.
U.S. officials had neither confirmed nor denied the identity of the alleged American bomber. However, concerns on the recruitment of U.S. citizens were a growing worry, the New York publication reported.
American intelligence and counterterrorism agencies stated that at least 70 Americans have voluntarily gone to Syria to fight alongside rebels against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's administration.
Terrorism expert, Seth Jones, said that if the suicide bomber's identity is confirmed to be American, this could be a "potential game changer." He says that this could signify that Americans are being trained in terrorist acts, which could be used against the U.S.
