Golden Globe Nominees: Birdman Leads With Seven Nominations


Birdman, the movie of a washed up superhero actor who wants to revive his career, lead the nominees for the 72nd Golden Globe Awards. The film received seven nominations.

Boyhood and Imitation Game, meanwhile, came close, each with five nominations.

Birdman was nominated for best motion picture-musical or comedy. The film's star, Michael Keaton, garnered the best actor nomination for a musical or comedy film, while Edward Norton and Emma Stone, got nods for best supporting actor and actress. Birdman's director, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu, received a nomination for best director. The film also got nominations for best motion picture screenplay and best original score.

Boyhood, which is a coming-of-age movie and has been Birdman's primary contender this awards season, also received a nomination for best motion picture-drama. The film's lead, Ethan Hawke, grabbed the best actor nomination, while Patricia Arquette received the best actress nod. Richard Linklater nabbed the best director nom. The film also received a nomination for best screenplay.

Imitation Game, the biopic about the life and tragedy of World War II scientist Alan Turing, grabbed the nomination for best drama movie. Benedict Cumberbatch, who played Turing, was nominated for best actor, while Kiera Knightley received the best supporting actress nod. Interestingly, heavyweight contender Felicity Jones, whose performance as Turing's wife has been hailed, failed to receive a nod for best actress. The film also received nods for best screen play and best original score.

Force Majeure (Sweden), Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem (Israel), Ida (Poland-Denmark),Leviathan (Russia) and Tangerines (Estonia), were the top contenders for the best foreign language film award.

Kate Beckinsale, Peter Krause, Paula Patton, Jeremy Piven and Miss Golden Globe Greer Grammer, daughter of actor Kelsey Grammer, announced the nominees live at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Thursday.
