Amazon Testing Delivery Drones Overseas

Prime Air Drone

The FAA has given its first proposal for new regulations on commercial drones.

You've probably heard the news Amazon plans to use drones to deliver goods to customers. The online retailer is already testing its drones.

The only thing delaying the testing of Amazon's drones is that it hasn't received a go signal from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), according to NBC News.

Since Amazon released news about its drone delivery service plans almost a year ago, it's sent a letter to the FAA saying it will provide this drone delivery outside the United States.

Paul Misener, Vice President of Amazon's global public policy department, wrote the company has actually begun its outdoor testing. These tests were being conducted "in other countries with regulatory environments more supporting of small (unmanned aircraft systems) innovation."

The company also noted its drones need to be tested outdoors as this is a crucial component of the online retailer's program known as "Prime Air."

Amazon aims to make use of this program to deliver shipments in just half an hour or less.

MSN said it may be a little harder for Amazon to obtain approval since its industry is not within the "commercial use" component being implemented by the FAA.
