After the show was aired, his Chinese fans and viewers were said to have been offended by his statement. They later criticized the singer for allegedly portraying China, his home country, in a negative manner.
The offended Chinese citizens then accused Zhoumi of betraying his own country and making up stories to make China look bad. However, speculations also rose that the inaccurate translations of his statement caused the misunderstanding.
Zhoumi has then taken to Weibo to apologize, explaining his side of the story. In a rather lengthy post he has uploaded on the site, he stated that he does not understand why people would accuse him of not loving his own country and tainting the reputation of China. The singer insisted that he is proud to be a Chinese especially because he is promoting in a foreign country.
Zhoumi then explained the nature of the show, which invited foreigners who live in Korea to talk about experiences. Since the panel in the show spoke about the past and current situation in terms of public order in countries, he said he merely gave an example about the matter.
In addition, he said that the story he related happened a long time ago. He made it clear that his mother was heading towards the airport when the incident happened, but the public misunderstood and claimed that he stated that the airport itself victimized his mother.
He also insisted that he did not say anything about China being a dangerous country. Zhoumi also explained that he did not single out China and even advised people to be careful wherever they are going.
