One child and four parents were injured in a Henan kindergarten after a policeman tried to test his gun to satisfy the curiosity of the audience during a safety talk in the school.

The policeman and his colleague were at Zhengzhou's private Haiwan Experimental Kindergarten to conduct a lecture on gun safety ahead of Children’s Day. He thought he was holding an unloaded gun but when he began the demonstration, the shot he fired went off shattering the cement floor, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Fragments of the shattered floor hit the arm and leg of the child and grazed four parents, according to the report.

The injured were immediately rushed to the No. 3 People's Hospital and one of them had to undergo surgery. None of those injured were in critical condition.

One of the victims said the policeman allowed parents to take pictures while he was holding what he thought was an unloaded gun. Other parents who were at home during the accidental shooting rushed to the school to fetch their children upon hearing the news, reported Radio Henan.

Police reports said the two officers were placed in solitary confinement after the incident.

Three officials from the bureau were also suspended but it was not clear if their suspension was related to the accidental shooting at the kindergarten school.

A few hours after the incident occurred, the news about the accidental shooting was reposted more than 2,000 times online.

China’s law requires police officials to compensate victims and shoulder their medical expenses if found that they have misused their firearms resulting to any death or injury.
