A Palestinian man threw a chemical substance believed to be acid at an Israeli family in the occupied West Bank on Friday, injuring a man and four children, Israeli police and the military said.

The victims in an acid-throwing incident in Jerusalem on Friday suffered only minor injuries and are being treated. The 46-year-old attacker was also wounded after he was shot in the lower body by a civilian.
The terrorist, identified as Jamal Ghayyada by Nation.com but named by Ynetnews as Jamal Shaharna, is from the village of Nahalin and is mentally ill. He had received treatment at a Bethlehem mental health clinic in Bethlehem, reports Nation.com.

Jamal hitchhiked on the vehicle of his victims near a checkpoint outside Bethlehem which is near the Gush Etzion settlement. The vehicle had a family aboard with four young women and an older woman who is the mother of some of the passengers.
According to an army statement, Jamal threw acid on the passengers of the vehicle he was riding and then got out of the vehicle. The vehicle's driver tried to run after attacker who had a screwdriver that he was planning to use to stab other people.
Fortunately, a civilian saw Jamal and shot him in the leg. The terrorist was subdued and turned over to the custody of Shin Bet.
Three of the young victims were daughters of the older woman, while one was her niece. A 40-year-old male, presumably the vehicle's driver, was reported to have acid wounds on his face and eyes. MDA paramedic gave first aid to them and then brought them to a hospital for treatment.
Although 11 people have died the past month in Palestinian attacks, the use of acid to attack people is quite rare, both in Israel and Palestinian territories. Besides the 11 deaths, there were other attacks in the West Bank and Tel Aviv.
Among those who was killed as tensions ran high in the two areas was Ziad Abu Ein, a senior Palestinian official who died on Wednesday in a confrontation with Israeli troops.
