Beijing's National Stadium will showcase a portion of the 2014-2015 Freestyle Skiing World Cup organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS) as a two-day event beginning Dec. 20.
The National Stadium in Beijing, also known as the Bird's Nest, has been a popular venue for music concerts as of late, but the stadium also hosts some of the biggest sporting events around the would such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Freestyle Skiing World Cup consists of five different skiing events including moguls, ski cross, aerials, half-pipe and slopestyle. The FIS decided for the National Stadium to host the Aerials portion of the event, and marks the second time the Beijing-venue showcases an event organized by the FIS.
The two-day event will display some of the best aerialists in the world as they compete with each other and perform multiple combinations of flips and twists up to 20 meters above the landing slope.
The Skiers will be judged and issued scores on their jump performances. Judges will focus on jump takeoff, which accounts for 20 percent of the final score; landing, accounting for 30 percent; and most importantly jump form, which accounts for 50 percent.
The skiing event will not only offer top-level aerial performances, but it could also ignite passion for winter sports at a crucial time where Beijing is making a strong push to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
"As Beijing and nearby city Zhangjiakou are bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics, an international ski event comes at the right time and it will definitely attract more attention from the public for winter sports as well as promote Beijing to the world," Party chief of the National Winter Sports Administration Ren Hongguo says.
