The National Basketball Association has approved the move of Shelly Sterling to sell the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft Inc. chief executive Steve Ballmer.
The announcement of the sale to Steve Ballmer was made through a news release on Friday evening. The former Microsoft executive agreed to acquire the Los Angeles Clippers for US$2 billion, according to the team’s co-owner Rochelle Sterling.

The sale to Steve Ballmer has led the NBA Board of Governors to cancel a scheduled hearing on June 3 where a vote to terminate the ownership of the Sterling Family Trust of the basketball team would have transpired.
Shelly’s decision to sell the Clippers to Steve Ballmer was without approval from her husband Donald after the latter was ruled mentally incapacitated and lost his authority to control half of the family trust.
Shelly Sterling and the entire Sterling Family Trust have resolved the issue with regards to the ownership of the LA Clippers. The agreement also said that the NBA and its Board of Governors would cancel a pending charge to terminate the Sterling’s ownership over the Clippers after the team is sold to Steve Ballmer.
As the hearing is already cancelled after a binding agreement has been reached, Shelly and the Trust also agreed not to file charges against the league and to assure NBA that there will be no lawsuits to be filed from others including Donald Sterling.
This would mean that the National Basketball Association need not worry about the US$1 billion lawsuit Sterling filed against the league.
