A farmer-turned-inventor from Hunan, China has invented a motorized suitcase that could serve as a luggage and at the same time a vehicle that could take its owner to the airport.

The farmer who became an inventor was identified as He Liang from Hunan Province. He placed two small wheels at the back of the suitcase while one wheel was placed at the front. The wheels were designed small to be able to keep the special suitcase stable. The newly invented motorized suitcase could carry up to two passengers.

The vehicle was made after he took down an electric scooter and fitted the motor into a rectangular suitcase. Handlebars are also in place to control the breaks, lights and the special suitcase’s speed.

The suitcase turned vehicle could maintain a speed of 20 km per hour. It could also cover up to 60 kilometers, reported BBC News. The motorized suitcase is powered by a rechargeable battery and can be steered while sitting with handlebars placed upfront.

He Liang spent a total of 10 years to develop his invention. The special suitcase, dubbed City Cab, has been patented as a travel device with multiple functions. He was hoping to see his motorized suitcase invention hit the roads soon.

The special suitcase is spacious enough to hold a good number of clothes as a normal luggage would. It is also not that heavy and weighs about 15 lbs. when empty. It has been equipped with a GPS to keep track of the driver’s current location and where he is headed next.

He Liang has already been a recognized inventor and has won several awards in the United States in 1999. The idea to build the motorized suitcase came when he forgot his luggage on his way to receive his award.
