Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer deaths among women worldwide.

A new breast cancer treatment has shown promising results, especially in women who already have advanced breast cancer. It combines two drugs, Faslodex and pictilisib, an experimental drug.

Medical researchers conducting the study believe the combination may increase the effects of Faslodex, a drug already widely used in patients suffering from metastasized cancer. Faslodex loses potency after some time, however.

"We're finding drugs that can delay cancer and hopefully improve survival. And we're seeing early signs that these drugs can be effective," said Dr. Debu Tripathy, Chair of Breast Medical Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Tripathy is one of many other professionals in the medical industry who are hopeful about the drug,

The LA Times also cited another drug called Tamoxifen for its potential of reducing the risks of women developing breast cancer, especially those who are at much higher risk.

Researchers said the drug is believed to lessen breast cancer risk by nearly 30 percent. In addition, the drug is also touted for its components that may just protect women against breast cancer.
