The Heisman Trophy has officially been bestowed to Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. He becomes the first player from Oregon to win the trophy when he was named the winner on ESPN live TV, Saturday night.
"Thank you. I am humbled to be standing there today and honored by this award," said Mariota.

He also thanks his teammates and tells them to take pride in knowing that his Heisman Trophy is also theirs.
His win comes at the expense of Alabama's Amari Cooper and Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon.
In his junior year, Mariota made 38 touchdown passes with only two pass interceptions this season. He threw for a total of 3,773 yards. He also finished with a 68.3 percent pass completion rate and has the nation's best quarterback rating at 186.3.
Apart from his impeccable passing game, Mariota also has various facets of his game, chiefly, his running game. He rushed for 669 yards and was able to make 14 touchdowns.
His 53 total touchdowns for the season are a single-season Pac-12 Conference record.
The upcoming inaugural College Football Playoff will see Mariota and the Ducks face Jameis Winston and the Seminoles in the Rose Bowl game.
This meeting is the fourth contest between players who have already won Heismans and first since Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford in 2009 BCS Championship Game.
Mariota has one more year of eligibility, but he has been playing for Oregon for four years.
While he has yet to declare for the National Football League (NFL) draft, he has most likely played his last game at Autzen Stadium. His stock has only increased since winning the Heisman Trophy which will probably net him a higher draft pick.
"If you have your punch list of things as a program, the most iconic individual award would be the Heisman Trophy. But like Marcus said, I know he'd trade all that to win as a team," Ducks coach Mark Helfrich said.
