Gangnam Style Hits 2 Billion Views On YouTube

K-Pop superstar Psy has made a new record high with his music video Gangnam Style after it reached 2 billion hits on social video networking site YouTube.
This was the first time a music video has hit two billion views following Justin Bieber’s one billion YouTube hits for his single Baby. However, Bieber’s video has not come closer to Psy’s global appeal on the social video networking website.

Gangnam Style became the South Korean rapper’s hit in July 2012. From then, the single has become a worldwide dance craze. The horse dance popularized by the South Korean rapper has also led to numerous tributes and parodies from personalities and the masses from all over the world.
Tributes and parodies included Ban Ki Moon’s performance of the horse dance to prisoners also dancing in tune of Gangnam Style in a jail in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Psy’s follow up song, Gentleman, has been doing well on YouTube. His Gentleman song has already picked up about 700 million views on the social video networking platform. Psy’s Gentleman also holds the record high for the most viewed video in a day with 38 million.
Gentleman trailed a little distant behind Bieber’s video titled “Charlie bit my finger- again!” with 711 million hits. To sum up, South Korean rapper Psy holds the top three videos in YouTube’s top 15.
The singer/rapper spent much of his time last year doing shows worldwide. He has performed in Europe, the United States and ended the leg of his tour in Asia.
The 36 year old K-Pop performer said that he has encountered difficulties to be able to top Gangnam Style. Psy said that his music became much popular than he is resulting the difficulty in trying to attempt to overcome Gangnam Style.
Psy was awarded with the Okgwan Order of Cultural Merit in 2012. This was the highest cultural honors in South Korea. He has also performed for newly elected South Korean president Park Geun-Hye during her inauguration.
