Giant Rubber Duck Leaves Hong Kong, Heads to the United States

The giant rubber duck has left Hong Kong and is heading to the United States. Thousands of tourists and local residents showed up in Victoria Harbor to bid the duck farewell on June 9th, 2013. Organizers of the Victoria Harbor had also prepared fireworks show for the farewell party.

The giant rubber duck has attracted a great amount number of people to the Victoria harbor area, giving the nearby mall - harbor city an economy boost; restaurants were especially benefited from it.The giant rubber duck has been once "sick", it had been deflated into a bright yellow puddle for several days, which it was described as "disconsolate "by the public. But after the duck has inflated and freshen up, the publics were so excited for its return. The duck has captivated Hong Kong since its arrival and news of the duck's deflation was splashed across Hong Kong media and social networks.
After the farewell party, the publics have tweeted over the social media with their attached to the duck - "I will miss you a lot, dear duck" "I don't want you to leave dear duck"
Since its arrival in May, the duck has drawn thousands of tourists to the area, giving the local economy a temporary boost. Local business owners capitalized on the duck, offering hotel packages, special duck themed menus, and souvenirs.
Street vendors nearby said selling rubber duck toys and accessories had nearly tripled their profits in the past month.
One stall owner, Ms. Chan, said she made about HK$120,000 since she has been selling the rubber duck souvenirs in the past few weeks, and she said this was the most profitable period since she took over the business a few years ago.
Next stop for Rubber Duck is the United States. The exact destination is a closely guarded secret.
"I can't say, it's confidential," said Hoffman.
"In the States it will stay a secret until the last week."
