The movie Exodus: Gods and Kings starring Christian Bale as Moses, made it on top of the US box office during its opening weekend. So far, it has earned US$24.5 million, but the budget for this movie is about US$140 million. Film experts say that it has to do well internationally to make up for its production cost.

Directed by Sir Ridley Scott, this new version of the story of Moses has won over the third part of The Hunger Games movie series. The critiques have mixed reviews about the film even though its cast is considered to be some of the finest actors in the industry such as Sigourney Weaver, Sir Ben Kingsley and even Joel Edgerton.
Time magazine didn't quite give a standing ovation on their review when they said that it is cinematically uninspired to retell the story of Moses. Vulture called it uneven like Ridley Scott's directorial career while the New York Times said it is both woefully insufficient and there are a lot going on making it too much.
Film analyst Paul Dergarabedian think that Hollywood is just now learning that making a film out of stories from the Bible is really expensive and not exactly easy to pull off.
According to statistics, its audience who came to see its debut release was 54% male and 65% are 25 years old and above. It was also more appreciated by the Hispanic and African-American community, which is about 18% and 20% respectively of the paying customers.
Fox's executive vice president of film distribution Spencer Klein, said that they have won some religious moviegoers, but the people who came to see the opening was more diverse than just that. He continued saying that they are having a great start so far as the movie moves towards the holiday season.
