There's a lavender-flavored chocolate, banana chocolates, deep milk chocolates, raspberry chocolates, and maggots-flavored chocolate. A what?

A Chinese woman from Jinan, Shandong province claimed she found a white maggot in a Ferrero Rocher chocolate she bought and was not convinced it was part of the chocolate's flavor, the Economic Herald reported.

The woman, surnamed Sun, claimed the chocolate, a Ferrero Rocher manufactured in November 2013 with an 11-month expiration, came with a wiggly maggot even if the sweet treat was still far from its expected spoiling date.

The company claimed the maggot could be a snout moth that developed in the chocolate due to Sun's improper handling and storage and was not a fault of the company's production, said the Economic Herald.

But it was not the first time that Ferrero Rocher has received complaints about the quality of its chocolate. In April, Chinese website iqilu.com posted a photo of a Ferrero Rocher chocolate that has a white maggot.

Sun also reacted to the explanation of the company's spokesman by saying she handled the chocolate properly and followed the storage suggestions printed on the chocolates wrapper. She told local reporters that she will never buy the same chocolate again.

Customers at a supermarket that were interviewed by the Economic Herald sympathized with Sun and lambasted at the company for blaming their customers. A woman, surnamed Wang, said Ferrero Rocher should not excuse itself when maggots and bugs are found in its chocolates.

The quality issue on Ferrero Rocher is not the first of its kind in China as several other food companies in the country have also been subjected to complaints. KFC, for instance, was lambasted online for antibiotics found on its chicken while several milk manufacturers have been criticized for melamine-tainted products.
