Buying a bra is a big bother and that's because it's a pain finding the right fit-and keeping it in place as a girl moves.

Australian researchers are working on solving this historical problem, however. A team is developing the first ever "Bionic Bra" that tightens and adjusts itself based on the wearer's movements. The Bionic Bra has been in development for the past 15 years.

The idea for the Bionic Bra came from Julie Steele, the director of the Breast Research Australia (BRA) based at the University of Wollongong in Australia. She wanted to reduce the physical complications of bras such as nerve damage in a woman's neck and shoulders; back pain and numbness in their fingers.

"Unfortunately, the most supportive sports bras tend to be the most uncomfortable to wear. Making matters worse, BRA research has found that 85% of women are wearing bras that do not fit or support their breasts correctly," Steele said.

The bionic bra uses a soft and intelligent fabric that signals the fibers of the bra to adjust itself to the user as if the fibers were muscles themselves.

If a woman relaxes, the Bionic Bra adjusts itself to this mood. If the woman moves, it bra tightens for more support.

The Aussies are eyeing 3D printing to make the Bionic Bra to accurately form the structures of the brassiere.

Steele, however, said it might take more time for the Bionic Bra to hit store shelves.

"Although we have made substantial progress, we still have a way to go before the Bionic Bra can be taken from the bench top to the washing machine. However, when finished, the Bionic Bra will transform bra design."
