The museum is tiny and cold; it is perhaps the smallest museum in Shanghai. 81-year-old Lan Xiang lives upstairs; his chopsticks collections are on display on the ground floor. Lan Xiang is a writer. When he was young, he traveled through many countries in Asia to collect a variety of chopsticks. If you meet him, he will tell you many amusing stories about these more than 2000 pairs of chopsticks. One of them is a pair of gilded silver chopsticks that came down from Tang Dynasty.

However, not all his collections are on show. "My best collections are in the bank." Lan Xiang said.

Shanghai Animation Museum

Open hours: 10am to 5pm from Tuesday to Sunday

This bling and futuristic animation museum opened in 2010. An introduction about the world animation history is on the first floor. The introduction covers from Chinese shadow puppet show to Disney's Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. The lobby is full of movie posters. There are life-size cartoon figures and animated short films in the hall. Children can play on the second floor. Visitors can even dub for the popular cartoons in their own voice.

Don't miss the movie theater on the top floor.

Shanghai Music-box Museum

These music boxes are a Japanese merchant's personal collections. The whole museum is filled with all kinds of music boxes. Most of them are made in Europe.

"This place is romantic and fun, that's why I come here for a visit." A Shanghai high school student said.

The most interesting music boxes are those with dolls. After winding it up, the doll will sway to the music. In a music box, a little boy is trying to eat some jam. Suddenly he finds the jam jar turns into his grandma's angry face. In another one, a woman is stewing a monkey's head.

Don't miss the world's oldest music box: a small and ingenious device with golden color, it was made in 1796.

Shanghai Typewriter Museum

When people step into the small typewriter museum, they often feel confused about the fifty typewriters exhibited there.

"I told the visitors these are ancestors of computers." The curator said, "Foreigners usually got excited when they saw the antique typewriters from their own country."

These typewriters are Lu Hanbin's personal collections. He was born in Suzhou, now he lives in the Czech Republic, engages in international trade.

Don't miss the oldest typewriter in the museum: a "mahogany beauty" made in 1809.
