The book is due in June 2014 and centers on true-to-life plane crashes that happened between 1951 and 1952 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the place where Blume spent her growing-up years.

Blume revealed that she hasn't forgotten these crashes.

"It was a crazy time. We were witnessing things that were incomprehensible to us as teenagers," she said.

The author pieced together the incidents to create the backdrop of her story's plot, which is more of an ensemble of family and friends that spanned three generations.

Carole Baron, Blume's editor, said that the novel is a "remarkable story," "gripping and moving - and not surprisingly, a book that will keep readers on the edge of their seats."

With over 80 million copies of her children and young adult literatures sold in 31 languages worldwide, Blume has tackled some of the most sensitive issues of her time, including racism (Iggie's House), menstruation (Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.), divorce (It's Not the End of the World, Just As Long As We're Together), bullying (Blubber), masturbation (Deenie; Then Again, Maybe I Won't) and teen sex (Forever). The author has drawn the attention of fans and critics alike and her works have actually been the center of discussions of whether they were actually appropriate for teens and young adults.

In 1996, Blume was honored by the American Library Association with the Margaret Edwards Award for her contribution in the field of teenage literature.
