China's state-run TV network CCTV has reported that Tencent, Sina News, Phoenix News, PPTV, 17173 and Ku6 have all been found guilty of "promotion vulgar content" and the State Information Office has asked subdivisions to "seriously investigate" these issues.
The Chinese government does not deal in pornography or over sexualized images and tends to sweep the Internet clean every few months, reporting on companies who failed to comply.

The offending companies must take down the material, or face further sanctions. Most of the content deemed unfit for the Chinese audience has already been taken down, for example 818.17173.com was a domain for sexualized pictures, it does not show anything now.
Tencent's 'Hot and Sexy Column' has also disappeared from the web, alongside Sina and Phoenix's areas promoting over-sexualized content. The accused companies have been given a warning, but it is unlikely the government will take this any further.
Unlike the global Internet, where pornography and over sexualized content is normally removed by the site owner, China takes an active role in making sure all content is fit for the Chinese audience.
The rather observant government is quick to remove anything it deems violates the rules. New companies are trying to push their luck with new services for younger audiences, but the crackdown on these services continues to be swift.
The crackdown comes just weeks after the Chinese government announced it would start outright banning games and animation services that do not actively monitor comments or an in-game chat, after the Chinese government noticed a lot of unfiltered anti-government comments on these types of sites.
When push comes to shove, the Chinese government always gets its own way on the Internet, although Chinese internet companies have a tendency to always listen.
