The rejection to file a lawsuit came 10 days after Judy Huth accused the comedian of child sexual abuse.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, the rejection was due to the fact that that the claim is already beyond what the statute of limitations permit.
Before speaking with the police, Huth slammed Cosby with a civil lawsuit accusing him of forcing her to have sex with him inside a room at the Playboy Mansion.
She claimed she was only 15 years old.
Cosby's attorney, meanwhile, accused Huth for trying to extort US $250,000 from the comedian, suing him afterwards when Cosby's camp refused to give in to her demands and after she failed to sell her story to a tabloid a decade ago.
Cosby's lawyer also requested that the court dismiss the lawsuit, citing that it does not pass the standards set by the statute of limitations.
Before rejecting the case, prosecutors determined whether Huth's claims were within what the extent of the statute of limitations permits. Legislative changes actually extend the statute's coverage to certain crimes, however, the prosecutors did not find any reason to legally prosecute Cosby.
According to state prosecutors, the statute of limitations for filing a misdemeanor case is one year, while that for felony extends to three years.
Huth is just one of almost two dozen women who came out to accused Cosby sexually assaulting them as early as the 1960s. While no legal action has yet been taken against the comedian, his reputation, meanwhile, has somewhat been tarnished, affecting his career that saw at least a dozen performances canceled. The actor's planned TV comeback with NBC has also been cancelled by his supposed Netflix special has been shelved for the meantime.
