Did you know that "Wiiitis" can lead to "Surgerii"?
"Wiiitis" and "Surgerii" are but two of the afflictions besetting hard core gamers that play a lot of games on Nintendo gaming gadgets such as the Wii or Game Boy.
A team of Dutch researchers sought to assess if the Nintendo Wii is safe to give as a Christmas present. They began by collecting all the reports they could about Nintendo related injuries ranging from mild to fatal.

Their research posted in the weekly, peer reviewed medical journal BMJ found that intense use of the Wii led to psychological and neurological cases and even surgeries for fanatical gamers.
One reported injury is called "Nintendo Epilepsy". It got the name after a 13 year-old boy experienced a seizure after playing Mario Bros for almost three hours.
Another affliction is "Nintendo Neck," which was reported in 1991 after a boy experienced extreme neck pain after playing his Game Boy. There's also "Nintendo hallucinations" where the gamer experienced hallucinations because of video game music.
Other Wii related injuries were given the names "Wiiitis," "Wii Knee," and "Surgerii."
"Overall, a Nintendo is a relatively safe Christmas present however, those who receive such a gift should not swing the controller too hard, they should be careful about where they play, and they should take frequent breaks," said Dr Maarten Jalink, primary researcher in University of Groningen.
Nintendo, however, disputed the findings.
"Nintendo is committed to the safety of its customers and always includes comprehensive health and safety guidelines with its products. Provided these are followed correctly, a user should be able to enjoy their Nintendo product safely," said a Nintendo spokesperson.
Nintendo initially launched Wii in North America on Nov. 19, 2006 and released it at a later date in other countries. Wii is Nintendo's seventh gen video game console and a successor to GameCube.
