Taiwanese Grand Master Hsing Yun says that ethnic Chinese are talking about nation, blood relationship, culture, and custom, and are not related to citizenship, passport, and legal status.

Taiwan Competitiveness Forum, published in 2014, included the fourth season's "National Identity" Survey. Results show that the new Taiwanese election does not influence Taiwanese "National Identity".

The survey results also point out that 85 percent of Taiwanese people identify with "the Chinese Nation," and about 56 to 62 percent identify themselves as "Chinese People". The difference between "Chinese Nation" and "Chinese People" reached 25 percent.

Nationalist Party and Democratic Progressive Party have similar Cross-Strait policies. At least 46.5 percent of Taiwanese people believe that Mainland China will talk with Democratic Progress Party if the party does not announce the independence of Taiwan.

In terms of Democratic Progressive Party's Cross-Strait policy, 53.8 percent of Taiwanese people do not agree that the party is the obstacle hindering the communication between Mainland China and Taiwan.

Taiwan Competitiveness Forum publishes the Taiwanese "National Identity" survey every season. In the third season's "National Identity" survey published by Taiwan Competitiveness Forum in September, 53 percent of Taiwanese people considered themselves as Chinese. Negators cover 43 percent of Taiwanese people. Generally speaking, Taiwanese people's "Great Chinese People Identity" covers 60 percent. Besides, Taiwanese people have high identification on "Chinese Nation" with the rate of 87 percent.

Taiwanese Grand Master Hsing Yun shares his opinion on the statement of "Taiwanese people are Chinese people". He says that ethnic Chinese are talking about nation, blood relationship, culture, and custom, and are not related to citizenship, passport, and legal status.

Hsing Yun does not agree with the point of pro-independence activists of Taiwan. The activists insists that "Taiwanese are not Chinese", meaning Taiwanese are not Chinese citizens. However, those activists deny they are Chinese people as well as Chinese nation.

Hsing Yun points out again that generally speaking Chinese people refer to ethnic Chinese, including nation, blood relationship, culture, and use of Chinese characters. He states that it is not wrong to say "Taiwanese people are Chinese people".
