LG Electronics is planning a slew of new products for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January next year, the first big tech event for the South Korean company to impress.

The second generation WebOS smart TV will be available to view at CES 2015. The aim of WebOS 2.0 is to increase performance and load times. Early in 2014, LG announced WebOS for TV, a new type of smart TV. Instead of boxes, WebOS offered a slick new panel of networks, including live TV, Netflix, YouTube and even a web browser.

LG acquired the rights for WebOS, previously known as Palm OS, from HP in 2013. The price was undisclosed, although it is suspected LG bought the platform for next to nothing. According to LG, load times should be improved by 60 to 70 percent on WebOS 2.0. Other updates will make the interface easier to use. On the development side, LG has made it easier to port applications onto WebOS.

LG has not announced figures for 2014 WebOS TV sales, the South Korean company offered the TV in a variety of sizes in several Western countries. LG has been toning down the amount of Android/Google TVs on sale, to make the WebOS TV series look more important.

CES 2015 will also play host to many 8K TVs, Samsung, Sony and even LG will show off new 8K panels, twice the resolution of the 4K TVs shown off at CES 2014. It is unclear when these panels will be available, and what insane starting price TV manufacturers start.

Samsung is reportedly planning a huge CES, some reports saying the South Korean rival will launch the Galaxy S6 at the event. This would make the Galaxy S6 launch much earlier in the year, perhaps to counteract the iPhone 6S coming in summer.
